10-Year-Old Girl Escapes Alleged Abuse — Mother Arrested After Police Investigation
A bystander contacted police after discovering a 10-year-old girl alone on the street asking for help. As officers investigated, the child described ongoing physical abuse at home, alleging her mother frequently hit, kicked, and punished her by forcing her to stand in a corner for extended periods. Visible injuries, including bruising and a head injury, raised further concern.
The girl attempted to flee to her grandfather’s home, believing he was the only person who could intervene. Police transported her to safety and contacted Child Protective Services.
Later, the mother reported the child missing but was subsequently located and arrested after officers confronted inconsistencies in her account and evidence of possible abuse. She was charged with third-degree assault of a child. The case remains under investigation, and she is presumed innocent.
