A devastating head-on collision on what investigators described as a completely straight roadway ended in tragedy, a manhunt, and ultimately a decade-long prison sentence after the driver fled the scene.

On June 5, 2024, emergency crews responded to reports of a violent collision involving a white Ford F-250 and a silver Toyota Highlander. According to emergency communications and witness accounts, the truck crossed the center line before slamming directly into the SUV driven by 20-year-old Anna.

The impact was catastrophic.

The force of the crash crushed the front portion of the Toyota, trapping Anna inside while emergency responders rushed to free her. Meanwhile, investigators say the driver of the truck, identified as 35-year-old Travis, abandoned the crash scene and disappeared into nearby wooded areas.

Witnesses described seeing a man walking nervously near the crash site, talking on his phone while appearing anxious and distressed. Multiple people attempted to check on him before realizing he had vanished.

As emergency personnel worked to rescue victims and secure the scene, officers immediately began organizing search efforts.

Authorities quickly learned Travis had allegedly contacted family members and his girlfriend after fleeing.

According to interviews conducted by investigators, his girlfriend told police he had texted her saying he was hiding in the woods and begged for help.

Rather than helping him evade authorities, she reportedly urged him repeatedly to surrender.

Police interviews revealed family members eventually located him hiding near wooded areas where he emerged and entered a vehicle with relatives.

Instead of immediately surrendering, investigators say family members stopped so Travis could eat while discussing what would happen next.

Hours after the crash, Travis finally arrived at the police station and turned himself in.

During questioning, investigators informed him that the young woman involved in the crash had died from her injuries.

Authorities later obtained blood evidence showing substances were present in his system. However, because investigators could not immediately test him after the crash due to his decision to flee and hide, prosecutors could not definitively prove impairment at the exact time of the collision.

One heartbreaking detail from the investigation involved Anna’s mother.

According to reports, she was teaching at a nearby elementary school when she saw emergency lights outside. She later discovered the fatal crash involved her daughter.

Investigators say she later resigned from her teaching position, unable to continue working near the location where her daughter's life ended.

Following the investigation, Travis pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and felony hit-and-run charges.

He ultimately received a 10-year prison sentence.

The case serves as another reminder of how decisions made in seconds can permanently alter countless lives.

Investigators, family members, witnesses, first responders, and an entire community were left dealing with consequences that stretched far beyond the collision itself.

One message from investigators remained clear throughout the case:

Never leave the scene of an accident.
