Dog Sitter Arrested After Selling Woman’s $5,000 French Bulldog

In a bizarre and emotionally charged case out of West Palm Beach, Florida, a woman was arrested after allegedly selling a friend’s prized French bulldog she was hired to care for.

The dog’s owner, Tiffany, had paid a family acquaintance to look after her pet, Dior, while she traveled out of town for a family emergency. According to Tiffany, she provided $160, a large bag of premium dog food, and even bottles of water to ensure Dior’s comfort during the weeklong stay.

What was supposed to be a favor quickly unraveled into a betrayal. Tiffany returned from her trip to find out that the sitter, identified as Kiera, was refusing to return the dog. Tiffany claims she received a text message reading: “You’re not getting your dog back,” with Kiera later asserting she had been given the dog as a gift.

Kiera’s explanation to police was markedly different. She alleged that Tiffany willingly gave her the dog because she was tired of it barking and messing up her home. Kiera, who admitted to living in government-assisted housing where pets are not allowed, said she ultimately let the dog go because her living conditions weren’t fit for a pet—citing no running water for weeks and fear of losing her housing.

Text messages, Cash App receipts, and veterinary documentation provided by Tiffany appeared to support her claim that Dior was never intended to be rehomed.

Despite her insistence that she did nothing wrong and her emotional plea about being involved in church, Kiera was arrested and charged with grand theft of property valued up to $5,000.

The incident serves as a cautionary tale about trust, documentation, and the legal boundaries surrounding pet ownership. In many households, a dog is considered family—but under the law, pets are property. When that property is taken without consent, it’s a crime.
