From Decatur to Atlanta: Veteran Educator Named Principal of E. Rivers Elementary

A familiar face in the Decatur education community is stepping into a new leadership role in Atlanta. According to Decaturish, longtime City Schools of Decatur (CSD) educator and assistant principal Kimberly Walton has been appointed principal of E. Rivers Elementary School in the Atlanta Public Schools (APS) district.

Walton brings nearly three decades of experience in education, including 15 years within the Decatur system. During her time with CSD, she served as assistant principal at Talley Street Upper Elementary, where she was known for her dedication to students, staff, and family engagement.

Her appointment comes at a pivotal time as Atlanta Public Schools continues to focus on strong, student-centered leadership across its campuses. Walton’s blend of classroom experience, administrative leadership, and community-focused engagement makes her well-suited for the challenges and opportunities ahead at E. Rivers.

In a statement shared with Decaturish, Walton expressed gratitude for her time in Decatur and excitement for the new chapter:

“I’m proud of the relationships I’ve built and the growth I’ve experienced in Decatur. I look forward to bringing that same energy and commitment to the students, families, and staff of E. Rivers Elementary.”

E. Rivers, located in Atlanta’s Buckhead neighborhood, is one of APS’s most established elementary schools and has recently undergone major campus renovations. Walton’s leadership is expected to continue building on the school’s academic achievements and deepen community partnerships.
