Oakland’s Frank H. Ogawa Plaza is set to come alive on Thursday, May 8, as the city hosts a community-focused celebration in honor of National Small Business Week. The Small Business Week Marketplace & Expo will run from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, offering residents a vibrant showcase of local entrepreneurs, music, food, and city services.
The event is led by the City of Oakland’s Department of Economic and Workforce Development in collaboration with the Bay Area Organization of Black Owned Businesses (BAOBOB). The expo is not just a commercial gathering—it's a celebration of resilience, community empowerment, and the vital role small businesses play in the local economy.
Highlights of the event include:
A food truck mini court offering local eats
Live DJ performances and line dancing
Vendor booths featuring businesses such as Oakland Don’t Play, SafeTight Security, Toss and Throws, Hey Carter! Books, and Couchdate
City department representatives available for licensing, zoning, and business-related questions
This initiative gives small business owners a platform to connect with the community and city services in one accessible space. Whether you're a new entrepreneur, a longtime resident, or simply curious, this expo offers a chance to discover new local brands and resources.
With warm weather in the forecast—71°F and sunny with a sunset at 8:06 PM—the atmosphere is expected to be welcoming and festive. The event is free and open to the public.
