Pittsburg Offers Free Credit Monitoring

Published: May 7, 2025 | By sdotvenom.com

In the wake of a cybersecurity breach that disrupted the City of Pittsburg’s computer systems in August 2024, officials are now offering 12 months of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection through Experian for individuals potentially impacted by the incident.

What Happened?

On August 18, 2024, the city’s internal software detected suspicious activity, prompting an immediate system shutdown. The breach affected public access to City Council agendas and minutes via the Onbase Web platform, and led to the cancellation of the live broadcast of the council meeting on August 19.

While the city reports no confirmed evidence of personal data being compromised, it is offering the free services as a precautionary measure.

Services Offered

• 12 months of free credit monitoring

• Identity theft protection

• Support provided by Experian, a nationally trusted credit and identity services company

How to Access These Resources

Anyone concerned about their data, or those who may have a connection to the City of Pittsburg, can do the following:

• Call: 855-260-7533 (Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. PDT)

City Manager Garrett Evans stated, “We have no evidence of anything [data] out there, but we’re being prudent on this.” He emphasized that once the investigation is complete, individuals whose personal information was impacted will be contacted directly.

Final Note

The city encourages residents, employees, and community partners to remain vigilant and to reach out with any concerns. This breach highlights the importance of cybersecurity readiness and transparent public communication.
