“She Took $7,000 in Child Support for a Baby That Wasn’t Hers | Coweta County Arrest”

COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — An 18-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with theft by deception after authorities say she fraudulently collected about $7,000 in child support payments from her former boyfriend by falsely claiming he was the father of a child.

Investigators from the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office say the scheme came to light after the victim reported the matter in December.

Deputies determined that the child was neither the man’s nor the woman’s, and that the payments were obtained under false pretenses.

Officials are warning the public in case there are additional victims and encouraging anyone with relevant information to contact law enforcement as the investigation continues.
