Sutter Delta Medical Center Introduces Advanced Robotic Surgery System, First in East Contra Costa
Antioch, CA — Sutter Delta Medical Center has become the first hospital in East Contra Costa County to acquire and implement the Intuitive da Vinci 5 robotic surgical system, marking a major milestone in the region’s access to advanced healthcare technology.
The da Vinci 5, a state-of-the-art robotic platform, offers enhanced 3D HD visualization, improved instrument precision, and greater control during minimally invasive procedures. These technological advancements are expected to result in shorter recovery times, less scarring, and improved overall patient outcomes.
Hospital officials announced that the first procedure using the new surgical system is scheduled for mid-June. The robot will be used across several specialties including general surgery, urology, gynecology, colorectal surgery, surgical oncology, and gynecologic oncology.
“With the arrival of the da Vinci 5 system, we are bringing the latest surgical innovations directly to our local patients,” said hospital representatives. “This aligns with Sutter Health’s broader mission to expand access to high-quality, cutting-edge care throughout Northern California.”
Sutter Delta Medical Center is a 145-bed, not-for-profit hospital located at 3901 Lone Tree Way in Antioch. It serves as a Level II Trauma Center and teaching hospital, playing a vital role in delivering comprehensive care to residents across East Contra Costa.
This move also reflects a broader trend within the Sutter Health network, which has made similar investments in robotic-assisted surgery at facilities such as the Foothill Surgery Center in Santa Barbara—one of the first outpatient centers in the country to acquire the da Vinci 5 system.
