Bay Area Veteran Bill_grvmmz Talks Music, Identity, and His New Cannabis-Inspired Project

We got the opportunity to do a quick interview with Bay Area artist and producer Bill_grvmmz to discuss his latest project, the current state of Bay Area music, and the inspiration behind his creative process. With decades of experience behind the mic and behind the boards, Bill_grvmmz brings a perspective rooted in authenticity, poetry, and culture.

How long have you been producing and rapping?

“I have been rapping since the age of 12 (1984) and producing since 1988.”

With over three decades invested in music, Bill_grvmmz represents a generation of artists that helped shape independent creativity in hip-hop culture long before the digital era made distribution easy.

How do you feel about the current state of Bay Area music?

“The Bay is basically at a standstill right now, give or take a few artists. A lot of artists lack substance, community values, emotional intelligence, or identity anymore. Music for defiance.”

Bill_grvmmz believes the region still has talent, but feels many artists have drifted away from the originality and storytelling that once made Bay Area music unique. He emphasizes the importance of identity, emotional depth, and community connection in music.

What was the motivation behind this project?

“The motivation was simply to create an environment strictly for cannabis users and those who chose to partake in other avenues in that industry. This wasn’t just about marijuana, it’s love and understanding from a poetic aesthetic and romantic perspective. Almost to where you would think we were talking about women.”

Rather than creating a typical cannabis-themed album, Bill_grvmmz wanted to create an atmosphere — something layered with emotion, poetry, relaxation, and intimacy. The project blends romantic energy with elevated storytelling, creating a vibe-driven experience for listeners.

On this project, what is your favorite track and why?

“My favorite track would be ‘Come On In.’ It’s a vibe as soon as it starts and then when the hook comes in, it’s comforting and direct to the point. Lyrically one of my favorites, speaking poetry on the groove.”

According to Bill_grvmmz, “Come On In” captures the essence of the project sonically and emotionally, combining smooth production with poetic lyricism and a welcoming atmosphere.
