A former Las Vegas-area high school teacher and college professor has been arrested in Texas on disturbing federal charges related to child pornography. Zaid Mashour Haddad, who previously taught social studies at Canyon Springs High School in Clark County and served as a lecturer at both Nevada State College and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), was taken into custody earlier this week.

Haddad is currently employed as a faculty member at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), where he teaches undergraduate through doctoral-level courses.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas, Haddad is accused of streaming child sexual abuse material (CSAM) via a television mounted in his bedroom. FBI agents executing a search warrant reportedly observed a CSAM video playing at the time of entry.

Investigators say Haddad accessed this content through the encrypted messaging app Telegram, which contained a link hosting 181 separate videos of CSAM. Additionally, authorities claim he used file-sharing applications to join Zoom meetings where similar content was streamed live.

He has been formally charged with one count of possession of child pornography and one count of knowingly accessing material with the intent to view child pornography. If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in prison, lifetime supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.

UTSA has confirmed that a faculty member was arrested in a “criminal investigation unrelated to UTSA,” but has not publicly addressed Haddad by name. Requests for comment from the Clark County School District, UNLV, and Nevada State College have so far gone unanswered.

Haddad’s career in education spans over two decades, including five years as a high school teacher from 2004 to 2009. The allegations now cast a dark shadow over his academic legacy and raise questions about screening practices in both K-12 and higher education institutions.

This case remains under federal investigation.
