Bow Down to the Influence: How Westside Connection Shaped the nWo’s Wrestling Legacy

nWo’s Wrestling Legacy

In a compelling cultural crossover, professional wrestling’s iconic faction, the New World Order (nWo), drew direct inspiration from the legendary West Coast rap group Westside Connection. This influence wasn’t just aesthetic—it shaped the attitude, presentation, and swagger of one of wrestling’s most influential groups.

X-Pac Speaks on Westside Influence

During an interview shared by podcast host TJ Jefferson and actor O’Shea Jackson Jr., wrestler Sean “X-Pac” Waltman confirmed that the nWo “jacked” their whole vibe from Westside Connection. He boldly stated:

“We stole that sht from Westside Connection. Bow Down When We Come to Your Town—all that sht. The attitude, everything, we jacked it.”

That quote, and the conversation around it, highlight how the brash, militant, and defiant energy of Ice Cube, WC, and Mack 10 directly shaped the nWo’s identity during the late 1990s.

Watch and Hear It for Yourself:

Why This Matters

The nWo didn’t just revolutionize wrestling storylines—they brought in elements of urban identity and hip-hop authenticity at a time when wrestling was broadening its appeal. Their use of black-and-white promos, streetwear, and unapologetic defiance was a clear visual and cultural nod to the West Coast gangsta rap movement.

This acknowledgment by Waltman connects two pop culture powerhouses—1990s rap and 1990s wrestling—in a way that gives credit where it’s due.
