Ryan Coogler's Sinners Surpasses $200 Million at the Domestic Box Office

Ryan Coogler’s Sinners continues its remarkable box office run, officially surpassing the $200 million domestic earnings milestone after four weeks in theaters. This accomplishment is notable as it marks the first time since Pixar’s Coco (2017) that an original film—one not based on pre-existing intellectual property—has reached such heights at the North American box office.
In its fourth weekend, Sinners brought in an additional $23 million domestically, demonstrating enduring audience interest despite losing IMAX screens to Marvel’s Thunderbolts.
The film’s steady performance is attributed to a combination of positive reviews, word-of-mouth momentum, and strong audience loyalty. With a production budget of $90 million, Sinners is expected to reach profitability through theatrical release alone. Projections indicate that the film’s worldwide box office will likely surpass $300 million in the coming week.
The film is also poised to become the highest-grossing live-action original film domestically since Alfonso Cuarón's Gravity (2013). If Sinners exceeds the $292 million mark, it will surpass Christopher Nolan’s Inception (2010), positioning itself as the top-performing original film of the last 15 years. Should it reach $300 million domestically, Sinners would join an exclusive group of original films—alongside Avatar (2009)—to accomplish such a feat.
This box office achievement underscores the audience appetite for original storytelling and reinforces Coogler’s reputation for crafting commercially viable yet creatively distinct films.
